The Nucleus of Archeology
The present Permanent Exhibition of this museum nucleus sought to enhance and boost this space with the aim of disseminating not only the results of twenty years of work in the Archaeological Field of Serra da Aboboreira (CASA), but also the set of heritage values of archaeological interest and of the county of Baião that became available to the public in different types of media.
The Permanent Exhibition
Megalithism and the Bronze Age occupy a prominent place. A didactic model with 120 human figures illustrates the different phases of construction of a tapir and the respective mamoa (mound on land and rock). The visitor gets to know the different types of funerary monuments and the evolution of their ritual from the Neolithic to the Final Bronze.
The collective burial becomes from the Initial Bronze ever more individual and personalized, emphasizing in the first phase the objectives of prestige as the arrowheads in copper, while in a second phase a single offering accompanies the individual, as illustrated in a beautiful decorated vase.
The evolution of settlement during the Bronze Age is the second theme to be addressed. Of all the towns, the one of the Bouça of the Frade occupies a place of primacy. His ex-libris is a large vase of provisions decorated with medallions, and there was still found in it a vase with a wing and charred wild pear seeds.
The Iron Age and Romanization are represented in a single Castro intervention. From the Middle Ages stands the iron spur of Castelo de Matos (castle of the Land of Baião), because it is the oldest in Portugal.
Education Service
It coordinates patrimonial projects, organizes study visits and orientates to monuments, promotes activities of plastic, corporal and dramatic expression, allowing in this way a more active interaction between the school groups and the patrimony of the county.
