Vinho Verde – the Verde wine – is a mix of flavours and aromas: light, fragrant, medium content of alcohol and with great digestive properties. It stands out thanks to its freshness and special qualities and is a very drinkable wine, particularly on hot days.
Baião is a sub-region of the large Vinho Verde Demarcated Region, which is made up of the municipalities of Baião, Resende (with the exception of the Parish of Barrô) and Cinfães (with the exception of the Parishes of Travanca and Souselo).
It borders the Douro Demarcated Region, is located in the interior region of the demarcation of vinhoverde, Verde wines, with a less mild climate than the sub-regions of the coast and with colder, less rainy winters and hotter and drier summers. These conditions allow for a correct maturing of the varieties with later ripening, such as Azal and Avesso (white) and Amaral (red), which require hotter conditions towards the end of the cycle.
The sub-region of Baião has been distinguishing itself in the production of high-profile white wines made from the Avesso variety for their combination of intense and fruity flavours with a crisp acidity.
