As source of inspiration for the novel “A Cidade e as Serras”, this institution was created in “Casa de Tormes”, which today serves as a museum to preserve the scenario described in the novel and celebrate the author’s life and final work.
As a dynamic entity of Santa Cruz do Douro it centres around educational, agricultural, cultural and touristic activities. Eça de Queirós fell with love with the house and the farm of Tormes and describes them as magical places.
